Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Critter Cookbook (crittercookbook.com) collects from visitors, how it’s used, and what choices you have.

Who We Are

Our website address is: https://crittercookbook.com.

Comments

When you leave a comment on the site, we collect the information included in the comment form itself, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This helps us detect and filter spam.

If you provide an email address when commenting, an anonymized version of it (a “hash”) may be shared with Gravatar to check whether you have a Gravatar account. Gravatar’s own privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your Gravatar profile picture will be publicly visible alongside it.

Media

If you upload images to the site, please remove any embedded location data (EXIF GPS data) beforehand. Anyone who visits the site can download images and extract location data from them if it’s present.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may choose to have your name, email address, and website saved in a cookie for convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter that information the next time you comment. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we also set a few cookies to save your login details and screen display preferences. Login cookies last two days, and screen option cookies last a year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends your login session to two weeks. Logging out removes your login cookies.

If you edit or publish a post, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. It contains no personal data — only the post ID of the article you edited — and expires after one day.

Embedded Content From Other Websites

Some articles on Critter Cookbook may include embedded content — for example, videos, images, or articles from other sites. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly.

These external websites may collect data about you, use cookies, include additional third-party tracking, and monitor how you interact with that embedded content — including your activity if you’re logged into an account on that website.

Who We Share Your Data With

If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the password reset email.

How Long We Retain Your Data

Comments and their associated metadata are retained indefinitely, so that we can recognize and automatically approve legitimate follow-up comments rather than holding them for manual review.

If you register for an account on our site, the personal information in your profile is stored as well. You can view, edit, or delete that information at any time (with the exception of your username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you, including anything you’ve provided to us. You may also request that we delete any personal data we hold about you — with the exception of data we’re required to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Comments submitted to this site may be checked automatically through a third-party spam detection service.
